This mixed media piece, “State of Uncertainty”, captures the varying opinions regarding the pandemic and the reopening of different states.

June 15, 2021 marked the official reopening of California. Businesses are not required to have capacity limits, there are no county tiers, vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask outdoors, and social distancing is not required. While everyone has been waiting for our lives to return back to normal, the reopening of California has brought new fears and stresses. How do we know who is vaccinated or not? Will we still be safe outside?

The majority of recommendations from CDC and WHO depend on the honor code. Many businesses do not check vaccination cards and it is completely up to the individual to take responsibility and wear a mask. However, if unvaccinated people do not follow the guidelines, lives will be endangered.

Therefore, it is up to all of us to maintain safe and healthy. Getting vaccinated is a crucial step to lower the infection rates and for life to return back to normal. Not only will the vaccine help protect yourself and others, but you can also resume many normal activities.

Here are a few tips on how to prevent the spread. All facts are cited from CDC and WHO, please visit their websites for more information.

  1. Continue to wear a mask while traveling

  2. Follow guidance from your workplace and local businesses

  3. Still be cautious and stay alert if you have any COVID-19 symptoms

  4. Wear a mask on public transportations

  5. Pay attention to updates and COVID-19 regulations

  6. Keep practicing good hygiene: washing hands, avoid touching your face, clean and disinfect surfaces

  7. Avoid crowded and close contact places

  8. Self isolate if you feel unwell
